Treatments for Rosacea - Non-Prescription

CeraVe® Moisturizing Lotion and CeraVe® Moisturizing Cream are gentle enough to be well tolerated by those with sensitive skin due to acne or rosacea. The active ingredients aid in restoring the impaired skin barrier function. The ingredients include Purified Water, Cholesterol, Hyaluronic Acid, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20 and Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 20, Ceramide 1, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Dimethicone, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Phytosphingosine, Xanthan Gum, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Propylparaben, Dipotassium Phosphate, Glycerin, and Carbomer.

Azelaic Acid

Azelaic Acid, also sold as Finevin, and Azelex is recommended for use in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. It is not effective in treating severe acne. Azelaic Acid may also be used to address the acne component of rosacea. Azelaic Acid works through its antibacterial and anti-keratinizing actions. It may take up to four weeks of use to begin to see improvement.

You may experience skin irritation, burning, tingling, itching, dryness of the skin, peeling of the skin, rash, skin redness, inflammation or bleaching of the skin at the site of application. Be aware that any other ingredients or products known to cause skin irritation will intensify the effects of Azelaic Acid on the skin.

Products containing Azelaic acid should be avoided by pregnant or nursing mothers.

Proactiv Solution

Proactiv Solution is a benzoyl peroxide based lotion for the treatment of acne pimples and blemishes. To avoid ski irritation it may be necessary to build up a tolerance for Proactiv Solution, by using only once every two to three days and then gradually increasing the frequency of use.
